It appears that there was incorrect information provided to the authorities. Fortunately it is not a new hyper infectious strain. So the South Australian Chief Medical Officer has announced that the lock down will be lifted and restrictions eased. Every year on the last couple of days before Christmas we have people scrambling to squeeze in an appointment in the last minute for a problem that they want relieved before their Christmas break.<br />

We should all be willing to invest in our health to prevent small problems becoming large ones. Many people take out private health insurance to help buffer the costs of these.<br />
Health funds offer a limit to the amount they will pay, and this limit may not cover all of the costs of recovery from an injury. The body is generally governed by the principle of use it or lose
it. The body is about efficiency and conservation of resources. Why would it spend a lot of
energy and resources building muscle if don't use it? Why "waste" a lot of
energy and resources filling bone tissue if we don't load it? This also means that if
we only do the same certain tasks in our routine we will lose
capacity to do novel tasks.<br />

Those things we do once a year will become more challenging and more
likely to cause injury. This is why it hurts so much after pruning the
garden once a year.<br />

The aging process changes a lot of things about the body that amplifies these changes and makes us notice the deficiencies a lot more. <br />
<br />
"Useit or lose it" relates to most all parts of our body including lungs, heart and brain.<br />
<br />
So
to prevent loss of function, loss of movement and strength it means we
have to do things regularly, and full body movements to gently increase
capacity. Things like TaiJi, QiGong, Yoga are great as they get us to go
through a wide variety of movements that we wouldn't otherwise have
call to do in this modern world we live in. Many sports provide this benefit of varied movements also.<br />
<br />
What are you going to do today to prevent further decline?<br />

<li>Take the stairs get off one floor early.</li>
<li>Park a bit further from work to get a little extra activity.</li>
<li>Spend a few minutes gently stretching.</li>
<li>Do a brain teaser</li>

Again the year has flown by and Christmas and New Year Festive Season is fast upon us.<br />

Very rarely do you go to an party or event where Alcohol is not a big part of the occasion. From toasts to popping a bottle when you get the keys to your new home it seems to be a constant part of our lives. <br />
<br />
Alcohol is a toxin which disrupts the nerve cells and gives rise to the feeling of being tipsy or in other words intoxicated. This leads to changes in our thought patterns which leads reduced inhibitions and a form of artificial relaxation.<br />
<br />
<br />
What many people don't know is that the World Health Organisation's International Agency for Reseach on Cancer (IARC) classified alcohol as a <b>Class 1 Carcinogen</b> back in the 1980's.<br />
<br />
In 2014 the World Cancer Report <a href="http://publications.iarc.fr/Non-Series-Publications/World-Cancer-Reports/World-Cancer-Report-2014">(2)</a> came to the conclusion that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption regarding cancer risk. However is the dose dependent nature has been well established, so the more you consume the more the risk.<br />
<br />
<br />
Alcohol is attributed to 3.6% of all cancers and 3.5% of all cancer deaths <a href="https://doi.org/10.1002%2Fijc.21903">(3).</a><br />
<br />
Alcohol is also linked to increase incidences of other diseases such as heart disease, liver disease, diabetes, obesity, impotence, brain damage, you name it. These have their own problems which then lead to other problems and so on. The social effects on relationships, jobs, and mental health are also very pronounced.<br />
<br />
So overall less is best when it comes to alcohol consumption, and it is advised to often give the body a rest and have extended periods of alcohol free time. This is especially true if one drinks because they are stressed.<br />
<br />
<br />
So if you are thinking it might be good to give the body a rest, why not look at the <a href="https://www.dryjuly.com/">Dry July</a> initiative for cancer awareness and fund-raising.<br />

Many think that it is part of our clinic land, but it is actually <i>owned by the City of Charles Sturt Council</i>. The address is 192 Torrens Road Renown Park. <br />

We have been informed that this weekend (13-14 May 2017) the trees will be removed from this Council land as part of the requirements for the update to South Road. The Torrens to Torrens (T2T) Alliance need to move a number of services and utilities, and they will be relocated to under this land.<br />

The trees that the T2T Alliance will be removing are shown in the images below. The large peppercorn tree (top image) and the tree closer to the clinic building (bottom Image).<br />

With ANZAC Day falling on a Tuesday this year the Clinic will be closed on Tuesday April 25th. <br />

The reception will be taking calls Monday morning on the 24th but there will be no practitioners working on that day.<br />

<b>Clinic hours will be as normal from Wednesday 26th April.</b><br />
<br />
With many people taking the opportunity of a longer weekend, travel safe.<br />
